Christmas: 5 gift ideas for children away from consumption

Hello together,

Last Sunday, I wanted to say that too many gifts are overburdening and overburdening both children and adults.

At the same time, children cannot simply be banned from gifts.

So I've come up with some practical ideas here on how to reconcile consumption and giving.

Here we go

Gift Idea 1 – Make a gift carousel with friends

For this, all toys that your loved ones haven't touched for months will be collected and exchanged with other parents. So your children get the unloved toys from other children and vice versa.

Just because other children didn't like it doesn't mean it's not the greatest thing in the world for your children.

The number of gifts for the children remains the same here, but the costs fall to 0.

Gift Idea 2 – Meaningful Gifts

Of course, everyone has to define themselves.

For me, this includes gifts that the child needs anyway (bicycle, notebook, backpack, etc.) or which are something for the whole family (board games, decoration, handicrafts, instrument). Many people intuitively think of this for larger gifts, but why take a board game for 10+ if you exclude the 6-year-old.

Great board games (experience from 6), which are still fun even after a lot of rounds:

  • Dominion
  • Train after train
  • The Settlers of Catan + Cities and Knights
  • Ubongo

Gift Idea 3 – Letting the children decide

In the age of helicopter parents, children are more alienated than ever. Neither the way to school nor the afternoon leisure activities have most in their hands. So it can be a real alternative to let the child decide, for example, where the summer holiday should take place and see this as a gift.

As an adult, this also gives you new perspectives.

Riding stable is also no more expensive than Lake Garda, Legoland is also something for adults.

Gift idea 4 – Giving time

The following invoice:

  • Choose a gift: 30 minutes
  • Waiting at the checkout: 15 minutes
  • Gift wrapping: 15 minutes
  • Total: one hour.

But how often does he come by and play an hour with the child with the expensive gift? The alternative to throwing a gift over the fence is:

  • "A weekend at Grandma".
  • "A day with your cousin"
  • "2 Hours of Play"

In a world in which time is now the highest good for many, "giving away time" should be weighted much higher than "Lego gift".

Gift Idea 5 – Share

Of course, this would not be a financial blog if I did not recommend another security. The aim is to arouse or increase your offspring's interest in securities.

In addition, a stock never gets in the way or messes the floor.

  • It is best to buy 2 shares of a DAX group that sits near you (see here) in your/her depot. I would choose the title less for potential than for the interests of the child.
  • Then you look at the performance together from time to time.
  • Probably the enthusiasm is not very great until then.
  • But then comes the big day: AGM. Take 2 days off and travel there with the quilt. Normally, there are also factory tours and the like around such a general meeting. Then eat a few bits and then vote on the CEO.

First of all, this is great parent-child time and probably exciting and interesting for both of them.

If she/he wants to go back next year, this could become a nice tradition, otherwise you have at least a solid title in the depot for your child.

These were my gift ideas for children. These are of course also transferable to the birthday.

What do you think of the gift ideas? Have you ever given away a share ?
